Your Patmos is Producing Revelation

Revelation 1:9-10, ESV

I, John, your brother and partner in the tribulation and the kingdom and the patient endurance that are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet

Patmos. Desolate, small, and uninhabited—except for guards and other prisoners.

It was hard.

It was hot.

It was lonely.

And John was there through no fault of his own. He was there on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. You could almost say he followed God straight to Patmos.

I wonder if John questioned whether or not God was done with him.

I wonder if John was thinking he would be of more use to the kingdom of God if he was back in Jerusalem.

But, even in this solitary and desolate place, John found a place to meet with God—and his Patmos produced Revelation.

His Patmos stopped him long enough to receive Revelation.

Have you ever found yourself on a Patmos, so to speak?

A location, a job, a season?

Maybe you followed God, and He led you straight to Patmos.

If so, know this: God never wastes it.

And God’s not done with you.

God has purpose in every single place and season He plants us.

Keep pressing in.

Keep spending time with God.

Keep your spiritual eyes and ears open.

It might be hard and hot and lonely—but there is revelation waiting for you in that place.
