Our Fruit in Our Season

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭1‬:‭2-3,‬ ‭ESV‬‬

but his [the blessed man] delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.

When we delight in God—and in the Word of God—then we will produce fruit.

Our fruit—in our season.

One of the biggest ways to thwart our own fruit production is by wishing we were producing another kind of fruit.

The apple tree doesn’t produce peaches—nor does it long to produce peaches.

Sometimes it’s so difficult not to compare the fruit we were created to produce with the fruit someone else was created to produce. And when we focus on someone else’s fruit—or someone else’s season of fruitfulness—it messes with our own.

We’ve been created and called to produce a specific type of fruit that the world around us needs. Our fruit is unlike anyone else’s. How tragic it is to waste our time yearning for or trying to counterfeit someone else’s fruit when God has created us to bear a beautiful fruit of our own.

Our fruit—in our specific season.

Here’s the thing about seasons: a tree is only producing fruit in one out of four seasons. During the other three seasons, it’s going through the processes required to grow that fruit.

When the peach tree is blooming and producing those peaches in the earlier summer months, the apple tree doesn’t look down upon itself that it’s not producing. The apple tree knows it’s time for fruit production is coming.

So, if you’re in a season where it feels like you’re losing everything—or everything you’ve been doing previously is falling away—then you might be in your autumn.

If you’re in a season where it feels like everything is dormant and still and stripped away, then you might be in your winter.

But keep going.

Delight in the Lord.

Let your roots grow deeper and your internal processes continue.

Because your spring is coming again.

Your summer is coming again.

Your fruitfulness is coming again.

Your fruit in your season.
