Satan is a Liar

John 8:44b, ESV

…[the devil] does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

I just felt like someone needed to be reminded of this today.

Maybe you’re in a mental battle against our unseen foe and need to be reminded of this truth—Satan is a liar.

It’s a truth of scripture just as true as everything else in God’s Word.

Much of our battle as Christians is won or lost in our minds. Satan lies to us in our minds.

Here are some indicators that you're fighting a mental battle with the devil—you’re feeling:

  • Discouragement

  • Shame

  • Hopelessness

  • Bitterness

  • Anxiousness

If the thoughts in your mind are producing these emotional responses, then it’s a tell-tale sign they’re coming straight from the devil (liar) himself.

The enemy condemns and accuses—and fills our soul with shame and hopelessness and discouragement.

He’s the accuser of the brethren, so he brings accusations against other people to you—and accusations against you to you.

God doesn’t work through discouragement, shame, condemnation, etc. He is not the author of any of these things.

On the contrary, God works through kindness and invitation—even in conviction.

God works through hope and peace—even when grief is involved.

So, if the enemy is having a heyday in your head (as I like to refer to it), then tell him (out loud) to flee.

Speak truth out loud.

Speak scripture out loud.

And remind yourself of this truth as often as you need to: Satan. Is. A. Liar.
