Proverbs 3:6, NIV
in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 16:9, ESV
The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.
Mark 1:17a, ESV
And Jesus said to them [Simon and Andrew], “Follow me...
Mark 2:14a, ESV
And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me"...
In 2017, God led our family into a season of great change—embarking upon new endeavors, including a physical move to a new location. As we tried our best to create a plan on paper for that move, crunching numbers and outlining strategies within a designated notebook, the Lord said these words to my husband: “Close the book. You’ll never be able to figure it out.”
And the Lord was right. :)
We never could have pre-planned strategically any part of what has unfolded over the past 8 years—and God has reminded us of those words over and over again as He's continued to call us to new endeavors since that time.
We want so badly to be able to know the plan for our lives, but that’s just not what God does. He keeps us in the dark, revealing only the next step, so that we are forced to rely on Him.
And that’s enough.
We don’t have to know the plan because we know the Planner.
We don’t figure out our way to our future, we follow our way into our future.
We see this truth exemplified all throughout the Bible, from the Old Testament to the New Testament. From the Patriarchs to the Apostles. When Jesus called the disciples, all he said was follow me—and the disciples had no clue where they were going or what that would even mean.
There is no amount of figuring out that will get us to the destiny God has for us.
So, if you are trying to figure it all out and are frustrated and anxious and at a complete loss of clarity, then just let it go.
We don’t plan it out, we walk it out. Your destiny will not be figured out, it will be followed out
So just keep your eyes on Jesus. He will direct your path.
