The Power of Divine Favor

Daniel 1:8-14, ESV

8But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself with the king’s food, or with the wine that he drank. Therefore he asked the chief of the eunuchs to allow him not to defile himself. 9And God gave Daniel favor and compassion in the sight of the chief of the eunuchs, 10and the chief of the eunuchs said to Daniel, “I fear my lord the king, who assigned your food and your drink; for why should he see that you were in worse condition than the youths who are of your own age? So you would endanger my head with the king.” 11Then Daniel said to the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had assigned over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, 12“Test your servants for ten days; let us be given vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13Then let our appearance and the appearance of the youths who eat the king’s food be observed by you, and deal with your servants according to what you see.” 14So he listened to them in this matter, and tested them for ten days.

The last two weeks we’ve looked at a couple of takeaways from this portion of scripture, and today we’re going to look at one final thing—the power of divine favor.

It is absolutely absurd that the official who was assigned to Daniel and his three friends even entertained their proposition. A man of position in the kingdom of Babylon quite literally risked his life to oblige the request of an enslaved teenage boy from a conquered nation.

Divine favor.

Divine favor defies logic to supersede the impossible, and we find it exemplified all throughout scripture. I’ve experienced it multiple times throughout my own life, and I've watched it play out in the lives of others. It's an amazing, powerful, unexplainable act of God to move on behalf of His people and His purposes. So, if you’re facing a situation in which you feel powerless to affect the powers that be, rest assured that the favor of God is powerful enough to do what you can’t do on your own. God’s favor can move mountains to accomplish God’s will.
