Mute the Voice of Doubt

Luke 1:18-20, NIV

Zechariah asked the angel, “How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.” The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news. And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their appointed time.”

Luke 1:34-37, 45, NIV

“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you... For no word from God will ever fail." ... And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.

No word from God will ever fail—so we have to mute the voice of doubt.

That’s what God did for Zechariah.

When the angel Gabriel muted the voice of Zechariah, he was muting the voice of doubt. Every moment of every day—until the promise was fulfilled—Zechariah’s silence would be tangible evidence of the power of God to perform His word.

There is a saying that, as humans, we tend to believe our doubts and doubt our beliefs. To do otherwise, through many situations in life, will require great strength of spirit, great determination, and great faith.

I don’t know what you are believing God for this Christmas, but know this—God’s words to you will never fail. He will do what He said He will do.

Numbers 23:19, NIV

God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?

Isaiah 55:11, ESV

so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

God will fulfill what He speaks—always.

You, sweet child of God, are not the exception.

So, wait for the appointed time, and mute the voice of doubt. Believe your beliefs and doubt your doubts. Believe defiantly. Your God is able. Your God is faithful. Your God is just. And your God will fulfill His words to you.
