Mighty God
Isaiah 9:6
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Mighty God.
Mighty is a military word. It is often translated in Scripture as valiant warrior or mighty warrior. This is why the next verse (Isaiah 9:7) ends like this:
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.
The LORD of hosts—or the LORD Almighty in some translations—means the God of the armies of the heavenlies.
We were born into a war—a spiritual war. This war exists at all times in a realm we can’t see with our eyes, yet it affects every aspect of life on earth. Every physical war—and every physical form of suffering—is an extension of that spiritual war.
But when we know Jesus, we know the Mighty God.
The Valiant Warrior God.
The God of the armies of the heavenlies.
Through Jesus, we have access to the power of the God of the armies of the heavenlies—the one who knows the end from the beginning and is in control of everything in between.
Jesus is the Mighty God—OUR Mighty God.
Jesus is the Valiant Warrior God—OUR Valiant Warrior God.
The one who fights FOR us.
The one whose power lives IN us.
And, therefore, the one who can now fight THROUGH us.
Oh Lord, thank you again for all you are, and thank you that we can know you. Thank you that you fight for us. Thank you that your power lives within us, and, again, help us to utilize it. Amen.
