Gifts to God
Last week we talked briefly about those to whom God revealed the birth of His Son—the shepherds, Simeon and Anna, and the wise men. What's fascinating is that each of them, in response to the revelation bestowed upon them, offered God whatever was in their power to give at that moment.
The shepherds gave praise.
Simeon gave blessing.
Anna gave thanks.
The wise men gave gifts.
And all of them worshiped.
I recently read about one family’s Christmas tradition that struck me in a deep way—each person gives an intentional gift to Jesus on the day we all celebrate His birth. I loved that so much! It makes sense, doesn’t it? It makes sense that we wouldn’t only give gifts to one another at Christmas, but that we would offer gifts to the One whom we’re celebrating.
So what gifts can we give God this Christmas? What gifts can we give God going into the new year? What gifts are in our power to give Him right now?
Gifts of praise and worship and thanksgiving.
Gifts of renewed commitment or trust.
Gifts of sacrifice and obedience.
Gifts of generosity and sowing into the Kingdom.
Whatever God moves us to give.
This Christmas season, let’s take some time to sit with the Lord and ask Him what He wants from us this year. Let’s be intentional about giving Him worship and blessing and thanks. Let's be intentional about giving back to the One who has given so much for us!
