Created to do Good Works
2 Corinthians 9:8And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.
Ephesians 2:10For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Titus 2:14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.
Titus 3:1Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work,
Have you ever really stopped to think about the fact that we are literally created to do good works? We often talk about the importance of abiding in Jesus, and that apart from Him we can do nothing (John 15:5), but we rarely talk about the fact that He says we abide in Him in order to bear much fruit.
The following was a line from one of our podcast episodes about contentment (Episode 2) that has left me pondering it ever since:
So if we know Jesus, but we’re still feeling discontentment, it could be that we’ve forgotten about, gotten distracted from, or are waiting for God to reveal the work He created us to do!
It goes back to the Greatest Commandment—love God, then love people—and the Great Commission—go and make disciples. So I think today, let's just ask ourselves a couple of questions to be thinking and praying on:
Do I know Jesus personally, yet still feel a discontentment deep inside?
If so, have I forgotten about, have I gotten distracted from, or am I waiting for God to reveal the work He’s called me to do on behalf of His kingdom?
Oh Lord, thank You for your abundant grace. If we’ve become distracted from the work You’ve called us to do, please foster a new zeal within us. Show us how to incorporate the good works You created us for within our daily lives, or show us where we need to make a change in order to do so. Use our lives to advance Your kingdom and bring as many people to Heaven with us as we can! Amen.
