What's Gotta Go?
Acts 27:18-19, 22, ESV
Since we were violently storm-tossed, they began the next day to jettison the cargo. And on the third day they threw the ship’s tackle overboard with their own hands…”Yet now I urge you to take heart, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship.” [Paul speaking]
Sometimes something’s gotta go.
What do we have on board our ship that weighs us down when a storm comes? Sure, it could be sin, but it might just be normal stuff. It might be cargo and tackle—stuff that’s okay for one season, but that God wants us to throw overboard for another season. Stuff that brings comfort or enjoyment or just seems to make life a bit easier.
So what stuff has to go for the season God’s calling you to?
And sometimes it’s not just stuff—sometimes we have to lose the whole ship because God’s got another one for us later.
It’s not easy to throw our “stuff” overboard, but when our whole ship has to go, that’s a whole other level of hard. When our whole ship has to go, we can end up feeling like we’re not going to make it, like we’re going to die somewhere along the way.
But we’re not.
Our shipwreck is not going to kill us. Your shipwreck is not going to kill you. And God will bring you to your next ship when the time is right.
Acts 28:10-11a, ESV
They also honored us greatly, and when we were about to sail, they put on board whatever we needed. After three months we set sail in a ship that had wintered in the island,
God never leaves us stranded when our ship’s had to go. He never leaves us lacking when our stuff’s had to go. We serve a good God. His plan is good. His purposes are good. And he is so faithful.
So if God is telling you that something’s gotta go, let it go. There’s so much waiting for you on the other side of your obedience!
