The Power of Going Low

Last week we read these famous words of Mordecai to Esther in Esther 4:14: “For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”
And today we’ll look at Esther’s response:
Esther 4:15-16, ESV
Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: “Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.”
We rise up by seeking God—and we seek God by going low. So, we rise up by going low.
Esther rose up by going low.
The “arising” which Mordecai challenged her to in verse 14 began by her going low before the Lord in prayer and fasting—and asking all of God’s people to do the same.
And, as the rest of the book of Esther unfolds, we learn that Haman’s plan was thwarted, God’s people were saved, and Haman was executed while Mordecai was promoted.
The prerequisite for seeing the power of God move through us is going low—lowering ourselves before the Lord in submission, intimacy, and seeking. We see this pattern all throughout the Bible.
If we want to see revival in our homes, our workplaces, our communities, etc., it has to begin in us. That’s why we’re going to start our 60-Day Revival Challenge in January by going low—by seeking God through prayer, quiet time, and fasting.
Things are amping up in the heavenlies, and God has positioned us on the planet for such a time as this—and we don’t want to miss it.
So, over the next couple of months as we end this year, we’re going to be purposeful about preparing our hearts to go low before the Lord, to really press in and seek Him. We’re going to prepare our hearts for personal, internal revival, believing that God will use us to affect the people and places around us in supernatural ways for His glory!
