"Even If" Faith

Daniel 3:17-18, NIV

“If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

“Even if” faith.

That’s the kind of faith we all want.

That’s the kind of faith we all need

That’s the kind of faith we can all have.

All throughout the Bible we see the men and women of God walking with “even if” faith, essentially declaring that they will worship, trust, and remain faithful to God no matter their circumstances:

  • Abraham: even if God takes my child

  • Moses: even if I stand between an Egyptian army and a Red Sea

  • Joshua: even if there’s an impenetrable wall in front of us

  • Gideon: even if I only have a few

  • David: even if the giant is bigger, stronger, more experienced, and more resourced than I am

  • Elijah: even if I’m the only one

  • Jehoshaphat and Hezekiah: even if I’m threatened by a massive enemy army

  • Daniel: even if I face a den of lions

  • The disciples: even if I have to leave everything behind

  • Paul: even if I’m beaten, imprisoned, and shipwrecked

And every one of them saw the goodness of the Lord on the other side of these things.

All these heroes of the Bible could have allowed their “what if’s” to be louder than their “even if’s”—which is the fleshly battle faced by every single person on the planet.

But none of them did.

And they are not exemplifying something we can never have. Rather, they’re exemplifying something we can all have.

So, let’s identify our “what-if’s,” and then declare our “even-if’s.”

Like the three in the fire, let's declare that no matter what happens, we will trust, remain faithful to, and worship our God.
