God Was Faithful First
Daniel 1:11-15, ESV
11Then Daniel said to the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had assigned over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, 12“Test your servants for ten days; let us be given vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13Then let our appearance and the appearance of the youths who eat the king’s food be observed by you, and deal with your servants according to what you see.” 14So he listened to them in this matter, and tested them for ten days. 15At the end of ten days it was seen that they were better in appearance and fatter in flesh than all the youths who ate the king’s food.
Last week we looked at Daniel’s inspirational readiness to sacrifice for the sake of his convictions. This week we’re going to look at something else that absolutely blows me away in this passage—Daniel’s complete confidence that God would be faithful, even though it would require a miracle he had likely never seen before.
It would require divine intervention for Daniel and his friends to look better in appearance and fatter in flesh than the other boys after consuming only vegetables and water for ten days. And yet, Daniel spoke with confident assurance that it would happen. He believed in the faithfulness of God enough to trust that God would be faithful to him.
And God was faithful.
So, what are you believing God to be faithful for today?
Rest assured, God will be faithful—for God was faithful first.
