Created for Good Works
2 Corinthians 9:8, ESV
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.
Ephesians 2:9-10, ESV
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
2 Timothy 3:16-17, ESV
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
So that…you may abound in every good work.
Created in Christ Jesus for good works.
That the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
We were created to do good works.
Have you ever noticed that the verse above—where Paul is talking to the Ephesian church about being saved by grace through faith rather than by good works—directly precedes the verse where he states that we are, however, created for good works?
Paul is emphasizing that although we are not saved by good works, we are created for good works.
God makes all grace abound to us so that we abound in good works.
We are created anew in Christ Jesus for good works.
Scripture teaches, corrects, and trains us so that we will be equipped for good works.
God works within us because he wants to work through us.
If we know Jesus, but it feels like there is something missing in our life, then it’s very likely that this is it. Just as mankind is created with an empty space only fillable by our Creator, so are we created with an empty space only fillable when we work alongside him.
So today, if you don't know what those works are in this season of your life, just ask God to begin to show you. He'll move your eyes and your heart toward the works he has for you.
